Chapter 11.

Part 50. A few days later. It was early evening when Helt Fangstien found a note had been slipped under his door. Last time this happened it had been a challenge to a duel, he wondered what it would be now. “Your American friend has wandered into the cave of giant spiders. Go quickly if you hope to save her.” it read. There was no signature. How mysterious. I will just rush out, with out telling anyone and go save her on my own, that would be the heroic thing to do. He laughed. No, it is most likely a trap, better not be foolish. “Hay Yue.” he said to his roommate, who was in a martial arts stance, meditation. “Know anything about giant spiders?” The Chinese student shook his head, “No, so sorry, I do not.” “Want to help me rescue Emma from some?” the tall German asked. “That would be a noble quest. So yes I do.” Yue replied. Helt passed him the note, “This is all we have to go on. Im going to see Serena, then over to the library to look up...

Chapter 10.

Part 46. Bedside Chat. Helt Fangstien awoke in a hospital room. He had seldom been in one but he knew it from the look and smell, and from the tubes stuck in his arm connecting him to some machine. Sitting in a chair next to his bed was a beautiful young woman with long dark blue hair; Serena Rexwave. He smiled at her. They looked at each other for a long moment, then Helt broke the silence “What is on your mind?” “In the time Iv known you, you have been nearly eaten by a green dog, stabbed by a French swordsman, and now nearly killed by a crazy cat lady. Is this how your life usually goes?” Serena asked trying hard to keep her tone level....

Chapter 9

Part 41. Let the duel begin. It was a bright and sunny Sunday as noon quickly approached. Not Helt’s favourite weather or time of day. The hill behind the amphitheater was mostly empty, a grassy mound with only a few trees. There would be no avoiding the sunlight in today’s duel. Fortunately he was not the kind of vampire who burst into flames. Any exposed skin would suffer a painful sunburn fast and be slow to heal. Sunblock helped avoid the burn, but the light would sap his strength the longer he was out in it. Under a tree sat Professor Marry Alisa Dellumph, who would be the referee for the duel. An older woman, dressed in Victorian style, she had a butler and tea table with her. To her left was Helt and his supporters. To her right was Natilla and her allies. A group of a dozen spectators stood behind her. After the butler whispered in the Prof’s ear, she stood up and said “There time is here. Will the conflicting students step forward?” Helt and Nat...
